Lexus LFA

It's all over the auto blogs and the sound of its rumble makes my heart skip a beat. The Lexus LFA has been a long time coming and the recent press for it is astounding. The video that can be found in the Gallery section of their dedicated LFA site is so incredibly sexy. I give props to Lexus marketing and advertising for their excellent choice in music. Price point aside, it is amazing to see the progression of how a major auto manufacturer is breaking into the super car arena with this new technologically astounding line.

It all started in the year 2000 when Lexus gave the go-ahead to build the concept. After 9 years (9 years!) of models, test runs, endurance competitions, and multiple re-designs, the LFA has finally been given the green light to start production in 2010. It is incredible to finally see an inspiration for Japanese automakers in the European dominated super car industry.

Specs:

  • 4.8L V10 552HP
  • 354 lb-ft of torque
  • 0-60 mph in 3.6 sec
  • Top speed of 202 mph
  • Weight of 3483 lb

Price:

  • $375,000

Despite the fact that there will be people like me who are gawking at the price tag and wondering whether Lexus can really demand a price like that with the initial specs that it has compared to the competition, the bottom line is that Lexus can indeed and there really isn't any "competition". It will be easy as pie for Lexus to sell the 500 LFAs that are slated to be built because of novelty, limited supply, and technology. Check out this jalopnik first drive post. Plus there are a lot of people in the world with money to burn and huge car fetishes.

And then there are people like me who just hope to hear and see one on the streets in person one day.

Wow

I'd take it! I really like the stylings on that car. It reminds me a bit of a Lotus Elise but looks a little bigger. The specs say it's quite a bit faster too :)
